Lupus erythematosus

Lupus is an autoimmune disease—a disease caused by the body’s immune system mistakenly attacking its own tissues. It can damage the filtering units or glomeruli of the kidneys and cause them to work poorly or not at all. However, only 2 to 3 percent of patients with lupus require treatment for kidney failure.
