Fluid Balance

As the kidneys fail, they become unable to control the balance of water in the body. For instance, many people with kidney failure pass little or no urine at all. Some patients continue to pass some urine when they start dialysis, but after a while, this often decreases or stops completely.

If you do not pass much urine, the overload of fluid in your body must be corrected by other means, such as dialysis and restricting the amount of fluid you drink.

Too much fluid may cause high blood pressure, which can be treated.
